Matthew Manke
Principal | Architecture
Matthew Manke joined Hacin in 2001 and has played a key role in shaping the studio’s diverse portfolio, leading projects that span private residences, boutique retail, and mixed-use commercial developments. His work as both a lead designer and project manager is central to many of Hacin’s award-winning projects, including flagship stores for global brand Fresh, FP3 in Boston’s Fort Point, Jordan Lofts in the South End, The Factory Lofts, North End Loft, and Teton Mountain House in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Among his most notable projects, Four51 Marlborough in Boston’s historic Back Bay was honored as a finalist for the 2022 Harleston Parker Medal, the Boston Society for Architecture’s highest award recognizing design excellence. Selected by a jury of peers, the nomination celebrates buildings that make a lasting contribution to Boston’s built environment. The project’s thoughtful balance of contemporary design with historic context reflects Matthew’s broader philosophy of creating work that feels rooted in place while looking toward the future.
Originally from Madison, WI, Matthew holds a Master of Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design and a Bachelor of Arts from Luther College. After completing his graduate studies, he made New England his home and has lived on the East Coast for more than two decades.
He is an active voice in the architectural community, having served as a juror for the Boston Society for Architecture and AIA New York Residential Design Awards. He regularly participates as a guest critic at local architecture schools and co-led a graduate design studio at Roger Williams University alongside David Hacin as part of the school’s Teaching Firm in Residence Program, mentoring students through hands-on explorations of architecture’s relationship to place and context.
When he’s not in the studio, Matthew enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter working on renovation projects at their home in Brookline or exploring the beaches of New England.
