Dorchester Avenue Cafe
A 60-person café concept in South Boston designed to bring together the community in a welcoming, collaborative environment, this project employed our architecture and interior design practices to envision an all-day restaurant design serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The space was designed for a flexible experience with a dining area, bar seating, and to-go counter, facilitating community and connection as a neighborhood gathering place. Inspired by the site's previous function as a cannonball factory, the café concept embraces circular forms and a fusion of industrial and contemporary aesthetics. Other design goals included the idea of bringing nature indoors by incorporating hanging and potted plants, as well as graphic and color-blocked elements to add visual points of interest to the space. Whether functioning as a go-to coffee spot for the area or an informal lunch or dinner destination, this space was designed with the intent to bring local residents together.
