41 Berkeley

41 Berkeley consists of the redevelopment of the existing Benjamin Franklin Cummings Institute of Technology campus, a site occupying a full triangular block between Tremont, Berkeley, and Appleton Streets in the South End of Boston. As the academic institution moves to a new location in Nubian Square, the existing campus is being redesigned and reconfigured to deliver a diverse and engaging mix of uses to the historic neighborhood. The development program includes the new construction of a senior care facility, the commercial redevelopment of the Union building, construction of 14-20 units of affordable housing, and a community center. Retail space will be provided on the Tremont Street side of the block, extending the existing retail corridor. To integrate the project with the surrounding neighborhood, the interior plaza will be landscaped as a publicly accessible passage, surrounding sidewalks will be improved for better pedestrian access, and dedicated bicycle lanes will be provided on all sides of the site. In addition to design services related to the buildings, Hacin also provided site master planning services related to the public approvals of the full development.
