A Warm Welcome to our Newest Co-Op, Joy!
We at Hacin are happy to have Joy Burnett join our studio starting this summer through the end of 2024 as Hacin’s newest co-op from Northeastern University’s School of Architecture!
Joy is a Swiss native who was born in Herisau and grew up in New York. The duality between Swiss and American architecture sparked her fascination with design early on. Currently beginning her third year at Northeastern University, Joy is pursuing a degree in Architecture with a minor in Business Administration
At Northeastern, Joy holds the role of set design director for the university’s fashion magazine, the Avenue, as well as the graphic designer and social media manager for Northeastern’s chapter of AIAS. Last summer, she spent time in Los Angeles where she completed an internship that focused on acoustic design for recording studios and home theaters. In her free time, she volunteers as a TA for the Sasaki Foundation’s DESI program. With a love for fashion, music, and art, Joy is interested in interior architecture and small-scale spaces where artistic expression can thrive. She envisions herself designing environments where she can blend architecture with her other creative interests, specifically in retail and residential spaces. Outside of the studio, Joy enjoys exploring Boston for the best matcha, listening to live music (especially R&B), capturing moments with her film camera, and finding vintage pieces at flea markets!
“The world is constantly changing, which everyone experiences differently. I believe architecture is a way of thinking. What I’ve learned is to explore outside of the box and focus on creating spaces that make an impact and connection between design and how people experience the places they exist in.”
