Hacin Receives BSA Citation for Design Excellence 2016
Our Public Garden Townhouse project – a renovation and addition to a landmark 5-story townhouse along the Boston Public Garden – has been recognized by the Boston Society of Architects in the 2016 BSA Honor Awards for Design Excellence with a Citation for its Interiors. Our work is among 10 other projects honored at the annual Awards Gala in early 2017.
The project included a full scope of architectural and interior design services, and it involved the integration of modern amenities, technology, and systems into a complex and historic structure as well as the addition of a contemporary penthouse overlooking Boston’s Beacon Hill neighborhood (pictured above). Modern interventions combined with historic restorations were made at every level of the home, and the journey from the traditionally restored parlor level up to the dramatic new penthouse addition illustrates a goal of creating a carefully balanced progression from ‘historic’ to ‘contemporary’ style — from the street to the rooftop. We can’t wait to share this entire project with you.
Reviewing the project, the BSA Jury noted, “There’s a lot to like about the landmark 1848 building and its sublime urban location, but it is the restoration of the original mahogany staircase and the modern addition that really makes it work. This is a tailor made response to the existing context. The integration of the modern and traditional is seamless. The dark and light of the material palette play very well together. Especially notable is the elaborate roof deck overlooking Boston Common.”
