Interiors Magazine Showcases Hacin’s Boston Common Townhouse

We’re so thrilled to share that Interiors Magazine has featured one of our residential architecture and interior design projects in a beautiful spread from their December – January 2015 issue! The article, entitled ‘Modern Brahmin’ acknowledges our reinterpretation of tradition in this historic Beacon Hill residence. The project, our Boston Common Townhouse, was a gut renovation of this 19th century townhouse overlooking the Common. Completed in 2013, the design concept sought to mix historic architectural details with a modern interiors palette to reinforce the relationship between the history of the home and its revitalized present. In the article, David Hacin discusses the design challenges, concept, and the work done with Hacin team members Jennifer Clapp, Kate Kelley, and David Tabenken.

Interiors notes, “Tradition and innovative thinking are not mutually exclusive. One cannot meaningfully be innovative without understanding why tradition once held sway, and innovations are most often improvements upon traditional ideas or reactions against them…This truism informs every aspect of a circa-1807 Beacon Hill townhouse renovated by architect-designer David Hacin… This technique of rendering traditional elements in clever new ways appears again and again…David’s innovative, functionally modern renovation proves that an old home needn’t throw out the baby with the bath water.”
