State Park
State Park, a bar and restaurant located in Kendall Square, was inspired by Hungry Mother State Park in southwestern Virginia. Hacin collaborated with Studio FKIA and the restaurant’s owners, also responsible for Cambridge foodie-favorite Hungry Mother, to design the quirky, curated atmosphere reminiscent of a rural dive bar. Salvaged tables, chairs, and seating booths furnish the space while a reclaimed pool table and pinball machines, ‘taxidermied’ critters, found objects, and vintage illuminated signage carry the concept through to the details. A six-foot diorama turned wall display is further evidence of the humor and nostalgia that is evident throughout the restaurant; the scenery depicts miniature vignettes of sunbathers, campers, and fisherman visiting Hungry Mother State Park. The playful setting and the down-to-earth hospitality provides a backdrop for the restaurant’s Southern-inspired comfort food and cocktails.
“State Park’s execution of a unique concept is right on target. It made us feel like we’d stepped into a party where everyone was having a good time.”
